Our House

Tickets for the latest KATS’ musical are on sale NOW!

Our House follows the story of Joe Casey, a rough diamond, who on the night of his sixteenth birthday makes a decision that splits his life in two. Set to the distinctive soundtrack of 80s band Madness, this story of consequence is an upbeat and exciting musical. Winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical on its release in 2003, KATS can’t wait to bring this show to the stage.

SHOW DATES:
Wed 26th to Sat 29th March 2025
THE PLOT:
Sheila’s Island by Tim Firth, Directed by Nate Fox, Music & Lyrics by Madness.

Our House is the story of Camden lad Joe Casey. We meet Joe on the night of his 16th birthday, surrounded by his friends, family and close-knit community.

Joe is a happy-go-lucky chap who dreams of a better future. Trying to impress Sarah, the girl he loves, Joe breaks into a building development that overlooks his home on Casey Street. But the romance is shattered when the police arrive and discover what they’ve done.

At this pivotal moment, Joe’s life splits in two; Good Joe stays and gives himself up. Bad Joe flees and leaves Sarah to run from the police.

Our House follows the two paths Joe’s life could take after that fateful night; one where Bad Joe is buoyed by his brush with crime and his ability to get away with it and another where Good Joe faces his punishment and strives to put things right. Through alternate stories and over a period of seven years, we see Joe grow from teenager to adult, navigating two very different worlds.

Our House weaves the complexities of love, family, friendship and community with the stomping soundtrack of Madness, providing a fast-paced, Sliding Doors-esque narrative we can all relate to.

Take a peek at our cast…

Cast & Creative Team

Good Joe - Tilly Rigby

Tilly Rigby is 19, and has left school after studying music and drama, and is currently working on her career in music. She was very interested in the two-sided character of Joe Casey and his strange journey that we follow in the show. She was mainly excited to join in with Our House as she has previously been in very comedic roles such as “Dewey Finn” in School of Rock, “the Baron” in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and “Fat Sam” in Bugsy Malone. So being able to explore a much more complex, intense story interested Tilly immediately. She can’t wait for you to see the show!

Sarah - Amelie Barrett

Amelie is a new member of the KATS group and has completely fallen in love with playing Sarah! She is 17 years old and currently studying drama at A level whilst auditioning for drama schools. Her life is busy as she is also playing Billy Flynn in Kingsbridge College’s Chicago, having previously been cast as ‘Blousey’ in Bugsy Malone and ‘Chad’ in High School Musical. Playing Sarah is more challenging, and it is by far her favourite role so far. She has found coming to KATS an incredible escape that has brought her so much joy. It has been so lovely working with new actors and she can’t wait for everyone to experience this hilarious show!

Dad - Wayne Kenny

Wayne is delighted to be a part of this vibrant production of Our House, performing alongside to members of his talented family. An experienced amateur, Wayne has brought charisma and charm to some iconic roles, including Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady and a show-stopping lead in Guys and Dolls. He discovered his passion for the stage in 2018, making his debut in a Torquay production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Last summer, Wayne embraced the Bard, acting in the hilarious Much Ado About Nothing with the Inn Theatre Company. Performing here with his wife, Kathy, the production’s Musical Director, and his eldest daughter, Tanya—whose remarkable voice and infectious energy light up the stage—makes this experience even more special for Wayne. He is thrilled to share this journey with his family and the audience alike!

Kath - Sally Feetenby

Sally has enjoyed performing a variety of rolls with KATS, The Inn Theatre Company, and various touring companies. Some of her highlights include Charity in Sweet Charity, Doralee Rhodes in 9-5, Prospera in the Tempest, Portia in The Merchant of Venice, and last year she played Beatrice in Much a do about nothing at Dartmouth Castle. She also joined Fast Forward Theatre Company in Plymouth where she played four different Characters in Tin Soldier. Having always been a fan of the band Madness, she is thrilled to be in this years production of ‘Our House’.

Angie - Amelia Ambrose

This is Amelia’s second production with KATS. She was in the last musical ‘The Wind in the Willows’ where she had her debut role of ‘old butler mouse’. She has really enjoyed playing the role of Angie as it is a character closer to her age! She has loved the people she has worked with and is inspired to do acting as a possible career in the future.

Lewis - Oliver van Es

Oli spent his early childhood in training for an energetic role in Our House, being made to tidy up to a soundtrack of Madness songs at full volume. He’s always found himself creating new personas and felt that amateur dramatics could be the way to enhance his aloof side. New to KATS, Oli welcomes a lively rehearsal after a long day lifeguarding at the swimming pool or besting the bad guys in his games.

Emmo - Brynn Walsh

Last year’s show was The Wind In The Willows and Brynn had such an enjoyable time with everyone that the only possible thing to do was to come back for more! Previously Brynn has taken part in numerous MAD shows. At the same time as preparing for Our House, Brynn is also enjoying rehearsing for the musical Sweeney Todd with Plymouth Performing Arts Academy. But for now Brynn is excited to play the comedic role of Emmo in Our house. He has thoroughly enjoyed the rehearsal process in which there have been many laughs and he hopes everyone loves the show as much as he does. Whilst Brynn is not on stage he is studying for his GSCE’s coming up in the summer of 2026 and preparing for his grade 8 piano.

Billie - Dina White

Dina’s first production in KATS was Oliver in 2015 when she was 14 years old and since then has been a part of several other productions, most recently taking the stage as a singing tap-dancing horse in ‘The Wind in the Willows!’ Dina is also a part of other local theatrical companies including MAD, The Salcombe Players and The Inn Theatre Company. Dina trained in many styles of dance over 16 years including ballet en Pointe, Tap, Jazz and Lyrical. Dina is so excited to bring the character of Billie to life as she feels the attitude and sass levels of the character are matched to her own! Dina hopes you enjoy the show as much as she’s enjoyed being a part of it.

Reecey - Phil Baker

After spectacular early success it seemed that Phil was destined to achieve great things. Following his performance in a Midsummer Night’s Dream one reviewer said “he is the most mischievous Puck I have seen for many a year!”, but soon after the juicy parts dried up. After years in the wilderness Phil returns to the stage as the character of Reecey in Our House. As a superficially likeable character with a sinister underbelly, the role isn’t much of a stretch for Phil, but it’s better than waiting to play Father Christmas again.

Mrs Pressman/Ensemble - Tanya Bakcsi

Tanya is so excited to be part of ‘Our house’. Tanya has performed in many amateur theatre productions at the Princess Theatre in recent years and this will be her first in KATS! Tanya is very proud to be working alongside her Mum and Dad who are also in the show… Tanya absolutely loves the buzz of the show and how each individual person tells their own story.

Ray/Ensemble - Christine Bonner

Christine’s first role was Marta in The Sound of Music- a part she suspects she landed due to her pronounced lisp not any notable acting ability! She has since performed in countless plays and musicals – you just can’t get her off! Her favourite roles with KATS include Nettie in Carousel, Lina Lamont in Singin’ in the Rain, Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit and M’Lynn in Steel Magnolias. A life-long Madness fan, she’s thrilled to be part of this exciting production.

The Magistrate/Ensemble - Felicity Bonner

This is Felicity’s 2nd musical with KATS having previously been in Fiddler on the Roof. She has performed in MAD kids’ productions playing supporting characters, most recently a teacher/parent in School of Rock. Felicity has played principal roles in the Salcombe panto: Principal Girl in the Pied Piper; and the Fairy in Mother Goose – it helps that her mother is the director! She also performs with Murder Mystery Group, Murders Assured. Fliss is enjoying being part of this fun show.

Neighbours/Ensemble - Teresa Chapman

Teresa has been a member for KATS for a long time and has a wealth of experience. She enjoys assisting with costumes as well. She is very excited to be performing in Our House with such a friendly and professional cast and crew.

Neighbour/Ensemble - Caroline Forcer

This is Caroline’s fourth KATS production. She has enjoyed hearing the music of her younger years and being reminded of the band who were such a formative part of her working life in Camden, where much of the play is set

Police/Security guard/Ensemble - Sarah Hailey

Sarah joined KATS in 2024, a newcomer to amateur dramatics she got a flavour for it after joining the chorus for Wind in the Willows. She loved it so much, she came back for more. When not rehearsing, she can be found singing in the local choir, learning to sail, or on duty with the lifeboat.”

Neighbour/Ensemble - Penny Hopkins

Penny has always been interested in performing arts. Over the years her neurodiversity prevented her from pursuing this, until she came across KATS, who have given her the confidence and space to express herself. Her first show included developing the set design for Wind and The Willows. She wanted to try performing on stage, so here she is in Our House performing various small parts and part of the chorus. Let’s see what the future brings!!!

Heather - AMANDA LEE

Amanda’s love for acting and musical theatre began in childhood and remains a huge passion. After years as a musician, singer-songwriter, and performer, she relocated from Newcastle down to Devon. When Amanda settled in Kingsbridge she began seeking like-minded creatives. KATS came highly recommended, and she was thrilled to be offered the role of Heather in Our House.

Priest/Ensemble - Helen Mitchelmore

Started performing on stage during her school days in Wales, many years ago. Singing, folk and creative dancing in Eisteddfods. This is Helen’s eighteenth year with KATS. Thoroughly immersed in every musical and one play (Calendar Girls) ever since. Playing a handful of cameo roles in Our House, but always on the good side! Sit back and enjoy the ‘Madness’’.

Julie/Ensemble - Isla Murray

This is Isla’s second KATS show, after loving Wind in the Willows as Portia last year. She has always loved being involved in theatre and has taken leads in shows with KCC and MAD, before later joining KATS! She is currently in her last year at school, aged 18, studying drama at A Level, and is really enjoying Our House as a relief from all her school work! She has always loved the music of Madness, and is very excited to see this story come to life!

Mr Pressman/Mr Jesmond/Ensemble - James Shephard

From comedy to tragedy and Dames to Villains. James has always enjoyed being on stage and loves putting his hand to any type of character. He studied Theatre Studies at school and did a lot of acting during his school years. His more recent experiences include local amateur dramatic pantomimes. He was really inspired from watching previous productions by KATS enough to sign up and join the company for this year’s production of Our House.

Callum/Ensemble - Olly Simmonds

Olly is loving Our House and has been with KATS since 9 to 5, most recently playing Moley in Wind in the Willows. He has always loved the stage playing parts in school and local productions since a young age. This summer he will be sitting his A levels and preparing to go travelling!! He would also like to say, “a massive thank you to the entire KATs family for being such a wonderful group!”

Neighbour/Ensemble - Fiona van Es

As a KATS first-timer, Fiona has been largely bewildered at rehearsals and embarrassed by her singing but doesn’t care as she gets to dress up and dance in sequins and feathers for one scene in Our House. No stranger to a chorus line-up, Fiona’s last experience of theatrical glory was in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Ruddigore at the Scala, Prestatyn in 1984 but adds that she will not be doing any cartwheels in this production.

Neighbour/Ensemble - Elly White

After working with Salcombe Players for many years, and running Front of House for KATS shows, Elly is thrilled to get back on the boards with all her friends. Elly first started her theatrical shenanigans aged 5, encouraged by her father in all things dramatical. It never really left her blood but was rekindled when her daughter also fell in love with the art. This show takes her back to the songs of her youth. She just had to get up and play again!

Neighbour/Ensemble - Andy Wood

Andy is making his stage debut in Our House after months of deliberation and no prior experience! Despite initial nerves, he’s loving every moment – especially as the Madness soundtrack is the music of his youth. Andy plays several small roles, including a shabby uncle, which his kids say is no stretch since he’s already a shabby dad at home! He’s been blown away by the support of the cast and the hard work behind the scenes and is even enjoying the singing too.

Carey Ryan-Carter - Choreographer

Carey initially trained with the Northern Ballet and went on to work professionally as a dancer and a choreographer. She later completed a drama degree and has also worked as a studio session singer. She joined KATS 10 years ago when she played ‘Shelby’ in Steel Magnolias then Mrs Johnstone in ‘Blood Brothers’. She returned to direct and choreograph ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘9to5’ and ‘My Fair Lady’ and last year choreographed ‘Wind in the Willows’. She grew up during the Madness music era and in the late 1980s used to hang out with Clive Langer their record producer.

Kathy Kenny - Musical Director

Kathy is a classically trained musician, having studied piano and violin at Goldsmiths College and then Trinity Music College, London. She has performed widely across the UK with the Plymouth Military Wives Choir, with whom she appeared at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall in 2016. Kathy has performed a wide repertoire of music from chamber works with her late father Colin Sauer to pop and theatre songs and shows in numerous local events. She has also enjoyed acting and singing on the stage in Cats and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Torquay’s Princess Theatre with TOPS alongside her talented family.

This is Kathy’s first time as Musical Director for KATS following four productions with us on piano and violin in the pit. She has loved working on Our House and is excited to share its energy and heart with the audience.

Christine Brooker - Costumes

Over a period of 18 years, Christine has enjoyed costuming productions at the Flavel Theatre in Dartmouth and more recently for KATS at Malborough. ‘Our House’ set new challenges in costume design that needed to work with energetic dancing and very quick changes, some of them on stage! So we set to work drawing on elements of the early 1980s, but in line with the dream elements of the script, adding stylised ensembles with costumes from different decades to provide an interesting, colourful and fun show which we hope you enjoy!

Sarah Fox - Co-Director and Production Manager

Moving to production manager has been a great learning experience for me. Luckily KATs is full of people with lots of experience and a willingness to help! Producing means doing a bit of everything and it’s been lovely being able to support Nate in this way whilst he makes his directorial debut.

Karen Sandy-Higham - Set Designer

Karen joined KATS nearly two years ago, and this is her second production as the lead set designer. She is thrilled with her new found interest and loves to be involved in such creative work. She has 2 fabulous teams working with her; the crafting crew, Anne, Sylvia, Jill, Sarah, Penny and Jules and the woodwork crew, her husband Paul, friend Alan Parker (from the Kingsbridge Men’s Shed) and even Nate the director got stuck into the woodwork sessions.

Karen has run weekly workshops in her kitchen where the crew work away creating the many pieces you see today on stage. Karen tries to use recycled materials as much as possible e.g. The lamppost on this set is made from innertubes from rolls of fabric and the lamp itself was an old Tupperware box that was ready for the bin. The rest of the lamp, paper mache, in true Blue Peter style.

Karen only got involved in amateur dramatics when she and husband Paul moved to Devon 2 years ago and although not keen to ‘tread the boards’, she has absolutely loved every minute of being a part of the KATS team. “Meeting and working with so many people of all ages has been so enjoyable and a refreshing change from my old life working in the corporate IT world. You should try it!”.

She would like to especially thank Palladium Building Supplies in Kingsbridge and Ultimate Fabrics in Churchstow for they generous contribution of supplies that help build this set.
